The Red Devils Poised to Secure Germany Striker Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants

Manchester United are finalising completing the signing for prolific German striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Marquee Signing for the WSL Side

The forward, with half a year remaining on her deal, has been a consistent goalscorer for both club and country. She has scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. Her arrival will be seen as a major signing for the WSL team.

Her exit from Munich has been anticipated since she appeared to be holding back emotions while thanking the German club’s fans after a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

Reports in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its leading strikers. According to multiple sources, all the paperwork for the move have now been completed.

Reliable Goalscoring to Strengthen United's Forward Line

The experienced striker's signing should represent a significant uplift to the team's forward line. She has been remarkably consistent in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.

  • Over seven straight seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Gathering Steam at Carrington

Securing the German international comes at a time when the club seem to be gathering positive momentum.

Their recent performances feature securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the mid-season window has seen additional activity:

  1. The signing of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since arriving in 2023.

Regarding the midfielder's new deal, a senior figure stated: “Miyazawa is now a vital part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability enables her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”

The new defender, having arrived from a club in the American league, said: “You can feel how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
