The 'Breaking Bad' Creator Discloses He Has an Idea of How The Apple TV+ Show Will Conclude... For Now.

The acclaimed writer-producer never anticipated that his new science-fiction series would become a massive hit. “The viewers have been incredible,” he remarks. “I did not foresee the show being as widely discussed as it is, and it makes me overjoyed.”

Now that Season 1 of the popular program wrapping up—and the next chapter greenlit and underway—the writers' room reflected on the audience reaction and whether it will impact the future direction of Pluribus.

Regarding the Overwhelming Viewer Reception

It would be easy to get distracted by the widespread acclaim and fan theories about Pluribus. The creator is striving to ignore the noise.

“It feels like an endless supply of hot fudge sundaes and being tickled to death,” he explains. “It's amazing, but I learn of it through word of mouth, and that's intentional. Not once have I Googled myself, nor do I ever plan to. It's not a lack of interest. It's a deep trap I know I would disappear down and then I'd be never leaving the house from Home Depot and I'd never leave my living room.”

In spite of trying to stay away, there’s it's impossible to ignore the immensely favorable response to the series. The best he and his team can do is to acknowledge it humbly and try not to let it alter the course of the show.

“We make no attempt to adjust our writing,” says writer and executive producer Alison Tatlock. “Our storytelling is not influenced by online forums.”

“We prefer to keep our focus on the work,” Gilligan concludes.

The Central Mystery: Does Vince Gilligan Know the Finale of Pluribus?

So if Gilligan and his team are not listening by fan response, does it imply they have mapped out how Pluribus will finally conclude? The answer is yes… sort of.

“We have some compelling concepts about the ultimate destination,” Gilligan reveals. “however, we remain prepared to abandon a good idea for a more brilliant plan. That has held us in good stead on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We scrap ideas when we get a better idea and I imagine we will be doing that.”

Alternatively, if all else fails, director and writer Gordon Smith has a humorous idea to serve as a last resort.

“My recurring proposal is that the entire story is inside a snow globe, and that we'll pull back at the end and we're in there,” he says humorously, “though the idea hasn't gained traction.”

Then again, why not reference the classics?

“I'd love for Carol to awaken next to Bob Newhart,” Gilligan says with a smile.

Pluribus can be watched on Apple TV+.
