New York Jets Coach Aaron Glenn Confident Kris Boyd Will Recover Fully After New York City Incident

New York Jets coach Aaron Glenn mentioned that he has been in contact with defensive back Kris Boyd and believes the player will recover well after suffering a gunshot wound in central New York in the early hours of Sunday.

Glenn described that Boyd, who is hospitalized, was “positive” during a recent discussion.

“That gives me comfort, is that his mood is upbeat,” Glenn said Wednesday. “His wife and child, they are doing well and he is expected to recover fully.”

Glenn was unsure when Boyd could be discharged the medical facility, where he has been listed as in critical but steady condition.

“Not certain at the moment,” the coach said. “However, I can share, just talking to him, his attitude was encouraging. And again, that’s what gives me comfort, given his positive frame of mind and his words reflect that optimism.”

NYPD released surveillance images earlier this week of a suspect in the shooting of Boyd. What prompted the attack is still being looked into and police mentioned it is unknown if Boyd was the intended victim. No one else was hurt according to reports.

The incident occurred just after 2am on Sunday morning about halfway between the famous arena and the iconic square. Boyd, 29, was admitted to a medical center after suffering a wound to the stomach, according to authorities. The shooter fled the scene.

Glenn mentioned Boyd has been on his mind “a ton” since learning of the incident. Glenn added that Boyd and his spouse just had a baby.

“What immediately crossed my mind, he just had a kid,” Glenn remarked. “I thought of his spouse, worrying about his newborn and I hope he recovers fully. That was my main concern.
“There is a procedure involved, I’ll keep private, but I’m happy at the fact that he’s going to come out of this thing really, really well.”

Boyd did not participate in the present campaign, after joining the team, after going on the season-ending injured reserve list on August 18 with an injury to his shoulder that involved surgical repair.

Boyd came to New York as a free agent in March and was projected as a key part of an improved special teams group under Glenn and special teams coordinator the special teams coach. However, he got hurt during a practice session on 2 August and had to be helped off.

Boyd has remained around the team throughout the season while recovering from the shoulder injury.

“He has stayed engaged with the team,” Glenn said. “Certainly, he comes to the games all the time. He’s fully engaged. Given his status as a special teams standout, he has been instrumental in guiding others.”

Boyd, a Texas native, began his career with Minnesota after his selection in the later rounds by the Vikings out of Texas University in the 2019 draft. He signed with the Arizona Cardinals in last year and later was with the Texans subsequently. Boyd signed a one-year contract worth $1.6m with New York in March.
