Liverpool's Manager Offers No Excuses and Pledges to Find Route From Slump
Liverpool's head coach declared he had to “examine my own performance” after Liverpool suffered a 6th defeat in 7 Premier League matches at home against Nottingham Forest and insisted he would discover a solution from the title holders' slump.
Forest, in the relegation zone before kick off, delivered the biggest win at Liverpool's stadium in their club records as the Merseyside club fell to an eighth defeat in 11 fixtures in every tournament. The most expensive domestic acquisition, the Swedish striker, was once more unnoticeable and the home side contended Murillo’s first goal should have been disallowed for comparable grounds to the captain's chalked-off goal versus City prior to the international break. But the manager admitted the responsibility stopped with him and offered no alibis.
“No one wishes to listen to me now talking about refereeing decisions if you are defeated 3-0 at home to Nottingham Forest,” stated the Liverpool head coach. “I ought to look at myself initially and my team, but it does show you how a score can alter the flow of a game. Earlier I was just waiting for us to score a goal. Afterwards we hardly created anything.
“Of course there is a path forward, especially with the talented footballers we have. Regardless if you win or lose when you reflect you are always considering: ‘Where can we do better, in what aspects can we make changes?’ but that is different from doubting your abilities.
“I want to stress I am responsible for the present defeats. You are answerable when you are victorious but also liable when you are losing. I can never provide enough reasons for us to have the outcomes we have. That is far from acceptable and I am responsible for that.”
Liverpool’s display fell apart as Slot introduced several attacking substitutions when pursuing the match. “It was the same on the road at Forest last season,” he said. “I substituted Ibou [Ibrahima Konaté] out and put on [Diogo] Jota and he scored immediately to make it 1-1. At that time it was courageous, now it’s probably stupid.”
Liverpool previously were defeated in back-to-back at Anfield Premier League games against Forest in the sixties. The last time they suffered back-to-back league games by a 3-0 scoreline was in the mid-60s.
Slot said: “It was very bad. Competing at home, conceding 3-0 regardless of which team you encounter is a very, very bad result. Unexpected if you consider the opening 30 minutes of the match. I haven’t seen us creating so much in the opening 30 minutes perhaps the entire campaign, and the first time they arrived in our penalty area they found the back of the net.
“It did not happen against Manchester City, but in all other game we have been the controlling team and were capable to create chances. Recently it is almost constantly that we fail to convert our opportunities and the attempts we concede find the net.”
